After about two solid weeks of thinkIng everything over I've decided to make a change. I have come to the realization that with my family and 70+ hour a week work load (which isn't changing anytime soon) I'm making a switch in not only training but also in lifestyles. I'm putting the thought of getting on stage again WAY back in the back of mind and I'm going to pick an old passion of mine back up.
I ran cross country and tge 10K in college and truly loved it. I started running 9 days ago and I'm really coming into my own again. My endurance is there cardiovascularly it's just my damn legs are killing me. My goal is to train for the next 19 weeks then do a half marathon on Dec. 8th. That should get my weight down pretty good and I will turn my attn to a sprint triathlon on my birthday April 14th. The sprint triathlon is a 600 meter swim, 32 mile bike and and 10k run.
This has been a hard decision to make but I can't rationalize the gear, the cost, the food, etc on a sport I don't have the time to compete in. I love bbing a lot and will of course follow every inch of it, it's just not for me rt now. I may keep a log with updated pics each week as I feel there is going to be very dramatic change in my physique over the next few months. 10 days ago I was 248, I weighed this morning and I was down to 238 but I feel great.
I'm going to continue to weight train 3 days a week concentrating on the big three lifts deads, squats, and bench which I've never really done before. I love weight training and I will always do it even if it might set me back a little with my other sport training. Im really Looking forward to this new chapter!

It will be a fun change. I raced triathlons for 4 years and loved it but I just couldn't keep my weight down because I would put on muscle fast and my body is not meant to be at 175lbs lol.

you have to do whats best for you. Glad you are staying true to that. Some of the principles you know, transfer over to cross-training as well. Good luck and please keep posting and keep us updated. A log would be great

I feel your drift and i like running too but with running comes injuries. Everyone I know I mean everyone that was a runner now has hip or knee replacement. Im 50 so im into longevity type of things. I'll run but I keep it at 2 to 3 miles and only on the treadmill. I think swimming is best, easier on the joints only thing is with swimming right now your competing with all the fat people for a lane

I don't think it is generally less expensive but like anything that is cool that we like, it is going to cost money.

As far as training time goes, get ready to really put in some hours. I was training around 15-20 hours a week for a race. 6 months for a 1/2 iron and a year for a full ironman. Your carb and protein intake is going to switch where you need higher carbs.

One thing though is that you have big wheels and all that muscle will help cycling but will suck when you swim because they are going to be like anchors lol

I knew a few guys that ran Anvar alone or a prop/anvar cycle.

Thanks guys, I get a little down here there about the size thing but it doesn't last long. I went to high school Pool where I teach and worked with the head swim coach today on some things. It was pretty cool to learn something completely new. I'll start a log tonight and keep those of you that are interested updated.

Having a swim coach was the best thing I did. It was less frustration spending time figuring out technique and just learning how to freestyle swim. Find a masters swim club, those are great to get laps in.

lucky bastard! lol

it would be great wo watch your body transform from a bbuilder to a runner.. this will be interesting

this will be interesting...are you planning on using HRT, or peptides...to increase endurance...(have you looked into that) Just curious, as it could really help ya...

Hey sorry for missing your question Chris. Nope I'm done with gear all together, just a personal choice. My main goal rt now is to drop as much weight as possible. Im down to 234lb which is down about 16lbs from a month ago when i started. I made it 4 miles in 29:45 yesterday morning but my knees are hurting sooooo bad today. It's not IN the knee it's in the actual bones. I'm guessing it from the pounding on the pavement. I'm getting my road bike tomorrow so I can start alternating a little more and not have to run as much. There's a 2 mile run 10 mile bike and then another 2 mile run sept 23rdim thinking about doing just to get my feet wet.

Have you had your gate checked? This helped me to have better mechanics while running and picking out shoes.

No I havent. What exactly is your gate?

I got my bike last night and holy shit it will fly. It has odometer on it and I was screwing around in the neighborhood this morning, I looked down and found myself going 28 mph! I definitely feel strong on it! Going for a 10 mile ride tonight.

It's your stride when you run. With a trained eye they can see your foot strike and get you into the right shoe. Your gate effects your knees and hips so if you have ever had problems there they will only just get worse. A good shoe is important as getting fitted on your bike.

Look into power meters for your bike when you really get into it. There are some that are really reasonable.

And here you thought it was going to be less expensive being a triathlete lol

Triathalons can be an expensive hobby...My company is a huge player in the endurance athletics market and big races like the Ironman can cost over 500-600 dollars just to enter the race. Even crazier is these races can sell out in less than an hour. Smaller races are usually more reasonable and probably just as much fun.
