im a fan of working out late at night and getting alot of my meals first before killin myself :-)

but when trying to drop weight, do you think its smarter to do cardio after the workout or in the AM? factor in the meals and goals of maintaining muscle while dropping weight.... not just diet overkill

man this has been beaten to death and i still have no idea which is best lol. im glad you posted this maybe we can get some more views on it. I personally do cardio post workout. I think the GH release has an effect on fat burning specially in low intensity. Lately ive been doing 50 minutes after my workout not letting my heartrate get above 125. Its working great im losing bodyfat but my weight is staying the same. thank you test lol. I sip aminos through my workout and 60g's of whey 20 minutes into cardio. I always heard that the gh release is over approx 20 minutes post workout so i figure using those 20 minutes without spiking your slin with glucose would be best I could be off base here and have no real science handy to back my statement thats just what ive read in the past. Im always more worried about burning off muscle. So i keep aminos and protein abundant during and after cardio.

It is said that the best time for cardio for extreme weightloss is in the early morning/when you wake and on an empty stomach. The Army is a firm believer in this. Hence, my seemingly endless years of morning PT. I personally feel a hole hell of alot better in the afternoonish to evening because I have fed my body energy with food.

I can tell you for sure that test levels have been proven to be higher in the mornings. With that being said it would seem like that would create a better environment for fat burning. If you think about it you always have wood or alot of times in the morning and this is why. Food stimulates the metabolism so I would say that if you eat first and have enough carbs and protein that you don't go catabolic its great in the morning. Now on the flip side the night cardio can't be bad either. The problem with night time cardio is it makes me not be able to go to sleep. The positive is that it keeps me from eating late at night.

morning, first thing when you wake before eating is best

I've always heard this too and this is what my wife does. Personally, I haven't done cardio in months. But my semi-annual cardio event is about due so maybe I'll hit it up the old eliptical this weekend

i dont think it matters i have done it both ways and gotten the same results...at the end of the day your doing it to burn calories

agreed arnold. They have done studies and contrary to what popular thought is on this it doesnt make a significant difference whether its fasted or not. thats why i started doing it the way i do, makes sense to me and has worked great thus far.
