I do sumo deads and always drag the bar up my shins. I love doing deads, but I've always got skinned up shins from doing this. It's the way I was taught to do deads (keep the bar as close to your body as possible to make the movement as short as possible). Anyone else do them this way and get the same result? I don't mind it, I'm used to it after years, but in the summer I always look like a little kid that fell down and skinned up his legs. My gf always makes fun of me for it, but I look at it as a badge of honor haha. To anyone that knows deads, they know what it's from, but I'm sure some look at my scarred shins and wonder what the hell happened

I actually tend to scrap up the top of my knee from these and racklifts. Usually I will carry windpants in my gym bag solely for this purpose.

Even with pants on I still tear my shins to hell and back. If I wear shorts it's a mess. Blood will drip down my shin, it'll get on the bar, smear up my shin on the next set. I love it, it's like a huge adrenaline rush for me. Might be my twisted and sick nature, but I love it. Of course I clean the bar up afterwards in case anyone was going to ask

I know that it might be weird but why not use soccer shin guards under your workout clothes

Some people might like that, but I don't mind dragging it up my shins. It's like an adrenaline rush for me. It allows me to know I'm doing them right and it just really pumps me up. When I did my last powerlifting meet, on my second attempt I dragged the bar up my shin and as soon as it hit mid shin the blood just soaked through my socks (you have to have high socks on during dead lifts in meets). Then on my last attempt, it was quite the motivator to go up to the bar, look down and already see the red streak down the white sock.

I know it sound weird, I duck tape my shins, I wear shorts.

I've heard and seen that before, I don't bother doing anything, my shins have always had scars from playing soccer for so many years so I'm not going to try to save them now lol

baby powder your shins

I'll do this when I have shorts on, but from doing sumos, the gnurling on the bar is what gets me, if I did conventional deads and the smooth part was hitting my shins, adding the baby powder would definitely help. Adding it when doing sumos only helps it slide smoother, but the gnurling still will tear my skin up
