Since my shoulder injury, I use dumbells mostly for chest. I get less irratation than I do using the bar. If I use the bar to bench, I can't move for about 3 days lol. I feel like I see more growth out of using dumbells more than just the bar. What are you guys feeling about this?

I like both. I like like to us the bar when I flat bench. And I like to use dumbbells when I incline.. But right now all I have is dumbbells since I work out at home now..

Yeah if I do flatbench with a bar, its lights out for me for a few days, my shoulder will kill me. Used to do 225lb for 20 and maxed 385lb, now it hurts to do 225 once on flat bench so I stick with dumbells and for just being back into it for a few months im doing 80lb dumbells for 15 reps so im happy with that and not hurting.

I also think dumbells are good for definition I guess because you have more movement to control it works more fibers in the muscle

I agree.. You what works. Because if you're hurt you won't be in the gym..

I like to do both. I usually switch things up every month or so to keep things interesting. I just started doing bench with the bar 3 weeks ago...didn't do it at all for about 3-4 months. I was having some shoulder issues, but mainly just didn't feel like doing it. A lot of times it just depends on what is available. If barbell bench isnt available, I move on to either dumbells or another exercise. I don't want to be at the gym any longer than needed. I'm not going to sit around and wait for something when I can do something else and either come back to it later or not do at all.

I have only done db press for the past few years. Bench killed them in the past but over the last few months I added flat bar in on a Smith but lighter weight. If I had a workout partner I would try it on a regular bench though but my chest movements consist mostly db's.

dumbbells i feel as though i get a better more direct chest workout .. barbell i do when im trying to get my strength up and wanna stack on the weight.

If im lazy I do barbell. Just seems easier then DB's to me. For me I notice the DB's give my chest better shape so
looks bigger. I go back and forth every few months.

DB's have always bee way better for m but than again I have a howard stern chest so..... Only guy in the gym that did incline press w 130lbs for 10 that wasnt huge
