I love google and have since the moment I discovered it 1998. Aside from the many great features of the search engine and all its become, I nevertheless went on using it without much thought to privacy. I'm quite ignorant about virtually all computer technology including the internet programing, applications etc.
Well anyways, I discovered that when someone is logged on to google, that is, if you have a GMAIL account and are logged in, when you leave your inbox to search the web, google tracks EVERYTHING. Not only each and every web search you make, but every damn website you ever visit. And it does so indefinitely! I just looked into my history dating back years and found so much "sensitive" information that if LE ever wished to take a look at my account, I'd likely be in world of hurt (an understatement if there ever was one).
So, not only does google watch your every fucking move, record it, and forever hold on to it for however long they like (*I've read they never plan to erase the data*), they also tailor advertisements that are likely to appeal to you based on programing that works to link your web searches, website visits, and surfing patterns. This is a fucking nightmare for virtually anyone who wishes to preserve their privacy.
And Google Chrome - Chrome takes it up a notch. It records quite nearly everything you do on the computer regardless of the activity. I mean, it records virtually EVERYTING. And while I learned that you can "turn off" browsing tracking, it still records and tracks other activity. Keep in mind, not only is your account linked to your online activities, so is each and every IP you use, encounter, or otherwise attempt to hide...from what I hear, this includes proxies etc.
Assuming this is in fact the case -- my primary source is something similar to a Dateline special, or maybe 20/20 featuring google Executives and/or the CEO (watched a week or two ago) -- I think this is really cause for concern. I've always loved google however I just deleted Chrome (the best browser I ever used) and I plan always to log out of my inbox whenever using the Web.
What a son of a bitch company. Internet Explorer is supposed to be much better and I think FireFox is a good alternative too, though FireFox annoys the shit out of me.
Anyone aware of google's invasive, intrusive, qualities? The idea of course, they claim, is to improve and tailor user "web experience" to each individual but it all seems like a marketing guise to target people (consumers) with products and services that will likely be purchased, thereby increasing revenues, market share, etc.
I'm all about capitalism, corporate America, and most all other aspects of our economic system. However this is so invasive and intrusive beyond all reasonability, I can't help but be absolutely appalled.
