If you can stay healthy, how long do you see yourself lifting? I'd like to say as long as I'm healthy and capable of doing it I'll continue to lift. I don't see myself ever losing the passion, but I know as you get older and hormones change, careers change and everything else it might not be as easy or as enjoyable to go to the gym.

the older you get the more you need the gym. It is what keeps you strong and young. Im mid 50's. Last break I
took was around 20 years ago. When guys my age stop lifting they start to loose muscle and get frail looking.
Friend of mine who owned his own gym for years, used to compete, was always solid and ripped, stoped lifting and
just was doing "core" exercises. Last time I saw him he was looking old and FRAIL. Lost most of the muscle and
sholders looking boney. You have to keep at it, just learn to work around the injurys. lol I cant do behind the neck
anything anymore. lol Shoulders have taken a beating but I work around it. Gotta go down swinging bro. lol

Yea, I just can't see myself ever losing the passion or drive to train. I know a lot of people my age (30) have already gotten out of the lifestyle so I'm sure it'll progressively get worse

I wont lie, im approching 35 at the end of this month and had some issues training. For me its not having a bud to work with me to give that extra drive. If your in the dfw area and go to fitness connection say hey lol

I'm 37, but no one can ever guess my age, young baby face, so I think lifting and staying healthy has helped, I'll lift as long as I'm able, it comes down to quality over quantity, I'll push it as far as I can.

the last thing to be lifted in my life will be my body as it hits the bottom of the grave in my coffin..look at stallone what is he 70..??

This--- I will be 47 next month and I can't imagine not lifting or lose the drive and passion to train.
My gym focuses more on the health club aspect than actually physical weight training. I can probably name 4 people in that entire gym that lift heavy or train hard to build muscle.
I like training alone- I am very picky about having a lifting partner- hard to find someone that will want to invest the time and effort to be dedicated to it on a consistent basis.

I think I will be changing the way I lift and workout in about year personally, I am gona give it one more go to get big and lean then I am going to move to a more cardio based workout and probably drop some weight and do a lot more circuit training, cardio, jump rope type of thing to stay lean and I will most likely still be bigger than the average person just based on genetics but I think the "lifestyle" is not very healthy in some aspects and want to make a move in my training.

just throwing this out there was wanting some opinions, I think that the older a person gets the drive and passion goes down...not just with lifting but with everything

I've heard people say that if you lift as you get older it causes more wear and tear on the joints due to overuse-however, I've seen documentation that shows other wise...when people get older that still lift their muscles and bone structure are actually healthier that someone who does not-as for the joint, if you use shitty equipment and certain movements they will shoot your joints

It is when I DONT hit the gym that I feel like shit. It is what keeps me feeling strong and gives me more energy.
My intensity is not at 100 percent every day but is up and down. After lifting so long it is just the way it is. I
almost always go heavy. I try to keep what I got and always trying to improve if only a little. Dont see me lightening
up at all any time soon. lol And like I always said, my MAIN reason to stay in shape is old broads are easily impressed.
And 98% of the guys look like shit when the get older. Life is good. lol
As far as the drive and passion, I dont think it has lightened up at all. This is just part of my
life and it is MY time for myself and I enjoy it. I think it is when you dont use it you loose it.

I have found that as you get older and take on more responsibilities, i.e, marriage, kids, working, running a business, financial responsiblities....the list goes on and on. Some folks just give up the gym by rationalizing that they have no time to work out anymore. However, its all about setting priorities, and getting into the gym for 4-5 hours a week is doable by anybody. I have been pushing weights for 35 years, and at times I get into a funk where I don't feel like working out. All it takes me to break out of my funk is to look around and see guys 10 years younger than me and they look like shit. That fuels me with the desire to get my ass into the gym and keep making improvements. Or at least keep what I have. Also, like mcgaret says, the older broads are impressed with an older guy who looks good....lol

arthritis runs in my family. I have an uncle that can barley walk without help because he sat at a desk and never exercised. my dad stays busy, has always been athletic and he tells me that if he sits around to much the next day he hurts all over. if for no other reason I really need to. that being said I'd train anyways. I don't know what I'd do with my time if I didn't and the way I eat I'd die from some obesity disease in no time flat if I quit. lol
