I know some of you think im just not giving my old cardio routine enough time. But, to me, its just not working at all. I was trying to keep my heart rate in between 130 and 135 for 40 minutes.

So today i decided to try something a little different.

The initial goal was to maintain a heart rate from 160 to 170 for 45 minutes. I found out real quick that im just not in enough shape for that. As soon as i got my heart rate to 165 i was ready to die.

So instead, I did a cyclical routine ranging from 140bpm to 165bpm for 30 minutes. I set the tread mill on a incline (3) and ran (7) till my heart rate hit 165bpm, then id set it back down to my walking pace (3.5) till the heart rate went back down to 140bpm. 30 minutes later, my heart was taking a long time to go back down below 150bpm. So for the last 15 minutes, i raised the incline to the max and just walked keeping the heart rate about 150bpm.

i feel energized!!

That sounds like a better routine, norm. I was thinking about the 130-135, and I think that may have been too low. Let us know how it goes.

i have the diet down... just wasnt going anywhere with the previous routine.

Does anyone have suggestions on how many days a week i should be doing this??? I was thinking 3.

I have to agree with you normal that it feels great after a 30 minute cardio session. My cardio session is somewhat like yours were I set the incline on the treadmill to about 1.5 and alternating between a brisk walk and running. I spike my hr up to about 150 at a speed of 5.2. After hitting the 150 hr, I decrease the speed to about 3.5 to bring the hr down to 130 then repeat it over again.

I try to fit it two a day sessions but usually by the evening, I'm beat after class and work.

Best wishes to you.

man, i was sore all weekend. Im still sore, but i plan on doing this type of cardio today, wednesday, and friday.

Did you start the cardio four weeks ago?

no- I started the cardio at a hr of 130-135 four weeks before i started this thread.

UPDATE:

4 days of cyclical training the weight is starting to drop. Im down to 243 this morning and lost an inch off my stomach.

I do feel im over training. Im exhausted, specially towards the end of the week. Fridays, my legs are fried, i have no sex drive at all.

by 5pm, im ready to lay down.

maybe you are.... i said it to ya before and i'll say it again...

if i keep the treadmill at 6% inclide @ 4.3MPH my HR is between 157-163. Do that for 25 minutes, 4 times a day... if you heart rate gets slower b/c of heart conditioning, just up the MPH slowly, just don't go over the fastest walk possible.... and you'll do fine... if need be like me, hold onto the display.. regardless, you sweat like a pig and drop fat and only fat...

.... @ 3x's per week i can maintain, at 4 i start to drop 5+ a week and i'm dropping fast... and it doesn't take forever to lose the weight either... just an idea bro...

yeah, i know your right. But im finally seeing something here and im not stopping for the life of me. It sucks, by friday i feel like a train hit me, Im walking around all day with my head up my ass.

Today and last saturday, Im down about 40lbs off my max bench. Pretty shitty strength loss. But what do you expect. Im coming down from eating anything and everything, and never doing cardio.
