I do these time to time, but I just cant seem to get the pump and burn like I do when I use both legs. Which one do you prefer, and do you feel it like you do when you use both legs?

I have to lower body lifts/week and do heavy Leg press with two legs on one day and Single Leg on the other. So I prefer both on diff days. But I still feel the pump on Single Leg. On Single Leg I do go slower on the eccentric part which I think helps the burn and pump, I don't do that with both legs.

I much prefer using both legs but every once in a while, but not for quads. I'll do them with lighter weight, higher reps, and make sure my feet are placed high and I go all the way down. This emphasized the hams and glutes--Cutlers favorite ham exercise BTW

I much prefer 2 leg, but switched over to 1 leg when I couldn't get anymore weight on the machine. I could only use the Cybex without feeling to much in my knees and it maxxed at 22 plates total..

Do not do one leg on the leg press.

I practice medicine and spoke at great length with a past classmate of mine who went into sports medicine. We also sat down with another budy of ours who went into Kinesiology.

There are certain muscles that were not meant to be worked on an individual basis; what I mean is that weight was meant to be as evenly distributed amongst the symmetric groups as possible.

Some examples of muscle groups like this were Glutes and Pecs.

We talked at great length about this and I don't really want to go into the logistics of this; I'm sure the information as to why is clearly divulged somewhere out there on the interweb.

yup exactly I never do them one leg at a time. Plus it uses all your core muscle which arent just your abs your hip flexors etc and at that angle and exercise its really hard on those muscles to use all the weight on one side.

Well there goes lunges!

I'll take my chances

P.S. give me a freaking break

That's interesting. I know a lot of the top trainers out there (i.e. Mike Robertson, John Romaniello, Bret Contreras, etc...) prefer single leg exercises to both. And what about muscle imbalances if you are dominate on one side then why would you not want to work out both to increase the weak side. I just think of sports and nothing happens perfectly, in football many times your are fending a guy off with one arm while trying to tackle or do whatever with the other. And just running Glutes each glute fires differently as one leg is using hip extension the other is in flexion. So I don't know, I've found a lot of info on the web saying single leg is preferred.

Bump for more input!!

I only use one leg presses or squats (on machines) only with a very light weight in order to make the mind to muscle connection, taking time to really feel what the muscle is doing. I've only started doing this the last month, and it has helped immensely with my leg training.

i do them, but only on a leg press machine... i wnt use an actual plate loaded one, i used a bodymaster one just incase i feel
anything funny i can just drop and stop the motion

i will occasionally do one leg presses or extensions.

variation is a factor in continued growth.
