My son participates in local parks and rec baseball. He has two kids on his team that are extremely obese. The team is 11-12 yr olds. One kid is so large that he can't throw from one base to the other. Both kids are so large that they can't bend down and field a ground ball. Ball goes thru their legs.
Question: Am I an over competitive dad by wanting the team of 12 guys to have a chance to win a few games. Not all but a couple. With these two kids on the team, we don't have a chance. They can't swing a bat and hit either because of their body circumferences. Their body mass does not physically allow them to swing in time to hit with the speed these guys pitch in this age group.
or
Should I be greatful they are getting exercise. At what point does it hurt the childs self esteem if parents are continually signing them up. At 11-12 yrs old the difference in the physical abilities are more than apparant to everyone and the obese children as well.
Do you feel its fair to the team and the rest of the guys on the team?

Well if the fats kids did not play baseball and just sat around we would all ask whats wrong with them and why arent they atleast out there trying to be active, so its a no win situation, cause ofcourse it does suck for the rest of the team who now cant be competitive.

Its a real tough call, I know I would be pissed off if my son was on that team and they never won, I wouldnt want my son on a losing team and would take him off the team and sign him up with a better team where he has a chance to be competitive and able to experience the feelings of victory ect

It sickens me how fucking fat and obese kids and adults are these days, its fucking pathetic!

Also how about a little phone or camcorder video, I would love to see exactly what ur talking about bro and see just how fat these kids are playing

Great idea for the video. I would not feel comfortable posting a video of them due to privacy with out their consent on any website. Trust me brother, these two kids are as big around as they are tall. I'm not exaggarting either.

I completely understand what your talking about man! I teach k-4 PE in a public school and at Lear 40% of my kids are obese. I have a 3rd grade boy that ways 215lbs and physically can't run due to his weight. His quads will not support all of his weight. Anytime we do team stuff and he gets put on a team his team starts to mumble. He seems active at recess, he doesn't just sit there he walks around with his friends. I honestly believe its a combination of his diet, poor genetics and lack of enough exercise. It's really sad to see our kids in this kind of shape.

To answer your ? Though, no its not wrong of you to want your kids to win a few games but like presser said you are stuck in a bad situation. If they were 6 or 7 I would say just leave it alone but 11-12 years old is a little different!! I don't envy your situation buddy.

Here's something to look at though, 11-12 year old kids have to play by the little league rules where every kid has to play 3 innings and bat at least once so at least they won't be out there very much. And it'll probably not be at the same time (at least if the coach is smart he wouldn't play them both together). So with there being 6 innings, I'd throw one of them in right field to start the game and then the other play the same position for innings 4,5,6. Problem solved, they won't get too many opportunities to ruin the game
