My son participates in local parks and rec baseball. He has two kids on his team that are extremely obese. The team is 11-12 yr olds. One kid is so large that he can't throw from one base to the other. Both kids are so large that they can't bend down and field a ground ball. Ball goes thru their legs.
Question: Am I an over competitive dad by wanting the team of 12 guys to have a chance to win a few games. Not all but a couple. With these two kids on the team, we don't have a chance. They can't swing a bat and hit either because of their body circumferences. Their body mass does not physically allow them to swing in time to hit with the speed these guys pitch in this age group.
or
Should I be greatful they are getting exercise. At what point does it hurt the childs self esteem if parents are continually signing them up. At 11-12 yrs old the difference in the physical abilities are more than apparant to everyone and the obese children as well.
Do you feel its fair to the team and the rest of the guys on the team?
