Training at a gym away from home...

Well, I got sent away for a few days of driving school for work and was forced to find a gym where I was. I don't like getting out of a routine and training at a different gym is never fun. I don't like going there because you're the "new" guy. People look at you like you don't belong and if you drop a weight, you always have to wonder if you're allowed to and who's going to be offended by this or that. I was lucky enough this time to find a Gold's so it wasn't bad. We used to have a Gold's around here, but it closed, it really made me miss it. I've always liked Gold's, but does anyone else get the stares when they train at a different gym or out of town? I wear a beanie and all black when I train most of the time, maybe that's it

Yeah I would stared at too when I went to a new gym. I always liked it because the guys didn't want you there and the girls wanted to know who you were.

I get those constant stares and shit too. I wear a tank top or sleeveless shirt and shorts everyday. Its comfortable and I don't give a fuck what people think. The constant staring is irritating though and I can never get into a good groove so now if I can't train at my gym, I don't train.

I trained where my brother lives the other day and some kid offered to spot me and started talking about mma. It was actually cool. He was nice, knew how to workout, and was knowledgeable about mma. The gym was very old school. 5 bucks to workout with no signing of any papers or releases. I was shocked. Some old prick did stare at us like we were idiots when we were talking about mma. I told him a few things and what I used to train in but we didn't talk long enough to be bothersome. This old guy was just a jerk. I enjoyed it and though the equipment was older they had everything I could have ever wanted for leg day.

I usually don't like training at a gym away from home either... I don't know where anything is and feel out of sorts. BUT... I did get a friggin' badass leg day in when I went to the Arnold this year. My friend and I found a Metro Fitness down the block from our hotel. We thought it was going to be some crappy little mainstream place, but it was actually really cool... more like a warehouse-type feel with old ass weights. It was huge though and they had multiple leg presses, hack squat machines, etc... so it wasn't like my home gym where I usually have to wait for equipment. There were some big dudes training there too, so it seemed like a legit cool place... We have so many crappy corporate gyms around here. I want a place like that!

Worst gym experience out of town? I went to the Jr USAs a couple months ago and took a cab a mile away to the nearest gym, a Ballys. The females at the front desk were total cunts and I almost left without even training. I was told by the hotel staff that use of the Ballys was complimentary for their guests. I got to the gym and they wanted me to pay $15. I kindly told them where I was staying and they asked if I had a pass. The hotel didn't tell me I needed one, so I told them that. So they insisted I pay. I politely insisted I wouldn't pay and asked if they wanted to see my itinerary (which I brought with me so I would have the hotel address when I called a cab for a pickup to go back), but they didn't want to. Finally the girl told me to sign in. I thanked her, then got an attitude when I asked where the locker room was. :finger:

I still haven't found a good gym near me... I used to have a great gym that was clean, and specifically had a room for the serious lifter, but they just had to screw over their clients by cutting the hours, and taking days off for some made up holidays. Who has ever heard of Kwanzidilla! No, but I get the looks by everyone, and I also get the asses that will start working on the same machines that I use, and slow my damn workout down, and so I have to go from machine to whatever, and pisses me off. Right now I have the big gut, so naturally any person who comes into the gym sees me, and naturally thinks I must be just a fat ass, and then I do weight that they have never done, and I am doing more reps, and etc. and then they get pissed off at me, like it is my fault. Thank whateve higher power you believe in , for mp3's players with headphones. All I hear is
