Hockey was canceled yesterday due to rink repairs. Ice was being made yesterday, so no skating. I was disappointed but it was a blessing, really. LOTS to do around here... I took the day off from training and worked.

193 this morning. 194 the past couple days.

Leg day today.

Squats:

Warmup:
Empty bar: 1x12
135: 1x10
185: 1x10
225: 1x5

I had planned to go straight to 265 but decided I wanted to feel the weight going up progressively, so did a set at 245: 1x5

265: 4x5

I took 265 off the rack for a 5th set but only just started to descend when I knew my low back was done. I for sure would have hurt myself if I tried it. Which is a shame, because I was feeling better with each set until then. Oh, well. Still rebuilding from back surgery.

Leg Press:
8 plates per side: 5x5

Between leg press sets I did abs:
In & outs: 1x15
Bicycles: 1x15
Russian twists w/ 20lb db: 1x15

Done. Usually, I do leg extensions and leg curls but it's lunch time; I'm tired; and don't feel like it. Not to mention a ton of work to do.
Looks like a fun workout you put together. @EMW14 and no joke on the leg press. Eight plates per side is some big weight.

Might have been good just to do rehab and recovery

I'll try to superset with Bulgarian Split Squats instead. That's a good exercise for skating. I need to get a half bosu ball for these; that's supposed to be good for skating balance.
stack and superset bro you'll get crazy pump

@EMW14 I like your honesty at the end. Sometimes life gets in the way and that's OK. You still got a great workout in.

It's quite a system. It's an industrial chiller which circulates sub freezing temp glycol (sub freezing for water, not for glycol) through a series of 1/2" tubes which are spaced close together. Sometimes the tubes are on concrete; sometimes sand. In this case, concrete. Water is sprayed over the tubes in thin layers so it freezes quickly. Once the ice is above the level of the tubes, it's either painted white and then with the lines, logos, etc; or a white tarp with the lines, logos, etc is spread out. This is the newer way of doing it. In the old days, they were all painted. Then more thin layers of water are sprayed on to build the ice up an inch or so above the level of the tubes. All together, the ice is somewhere around an inch and three quarters thick. The ice is kept somewhere around 26°F, I forget what the optimum temp is for hockey, but it's around there (26°). Apparently, figure skaters like the ice a bit colder than hockey players. If it's too cold, it gets brittle and then big chips are carved out when a skater turns hard.

The building HVAC system is separate from the chiller system.

It can be a challenge to maintain ice quality during summer, that's for sure, especially in a smaller building where the outside walls are close to the ice surface.
I can imagine they have a tougher time though in hot climates keeping that ice but you've got to wonder how much they spend on such a system. @EMW14

I don't know about this place; it's a small, practice facility. The ice rink is 35' x 60' or something like that, as opposed to an NHL regulation rink which is 60' x 200'. One of the guys I played with years ago was the operations manager of a facility with two "sheets" (two full size sheets of ice). Their electric bill in the summer time was $40,000 a month!

192.6 this morning. Man, I'm really getting frustrated! I'm eating as much as I can stand - admittedly not enough, and up and down a little bit - but can't I get a couple of pounds??? I'll keep plugging away, but the lack of weight gain is pissing me off.

Maybe I'm not training frequently enough...

That's pretty cool man. There are a lot of things that go into it.

Yeah that seems definitely crazy how much they'd have to spend on that.

@EMW14 I watched a video a couple days ago on how they put a hockey rink together with all of the emblems. It was pretty cool how it all goes together

@EMW14 Great updates....keep it up.....

241.2 pounds this morning. 4900 calories yesterday.

Back workout this afternoon.

Lat pulldowns:

Warmup:
180lbs: 1x10
195 lbs: 1x10

Decided to try to go up in weight today. Last time lat pulls were 230 lbs:
235: 5x5
All pretty decent sets. One good thing about lat pulldowns: you can't get the bar stuck on your chest...

Between sets I did abs/hips:

In & outs: 1x15
Bicycles: 1x15
Russian twists w/ 20lb db: 1x15
Side planks with leg raise (like scissors):

2x5 each side.

I have a knot or something in my upper back sort of behind my left shoulder blade that is very painful when I support my weight sideways like this. If I move just right, it doesn't hurt, which is what I do, but this is bothersome. It's been with me for several weeks. It doesn't affect my workouts except like I mentioned above. Not sure what caused it, but it's very slow to leave me.

Barbell rows: my low back is still a bit sore and fatigued from squats Friday; I'm starting light and going up to see how much it can take:
135: 1x10
185: 1x8 so far, so good but I'm having to be careful.
205: 3x5 I'm at my limit on these. Not just my low back, which has had enough. My arms and back muscles are pretty well spent.

That's it for today. Awesome pump!
