Whey Protein intake ???

How much whey protein does your intestines absorb at once? I heard that you can only take in about 30-40 grams of synthetic protein. Is this true? If I take a 60gm shake, am I only getting 40 or the full 60? Either way I take 2 or 3 a day. So how bout it fellas?

That is a highly debated subject. I personally use a protein blend to spread out the absorbtion so I can take in 50 to 75 grams per serving.

Well, alot of it depends on exactly when u decide to ingest the protein. Your body is much more suceptible to absorb larger amounts of portein after you have been physically active like when u lift weights or do cardio.

Another thing to remember that it twice as hard for your body to turn excess portein to fat than excess carbs so i dont worry bout excess protein.

I was thinking excess protein at all, I was thinking that when I take two shakes a day... thats 120grams of protein... But uhh ohhh you can only digest 30 per shake, and now we ACTUALLY only got 60grams. This possible? I get one scoop in the morning, 2 scoops 30 mins after workout, and 2 before bed. I think the one before bed is the most crucial. Makes me wake up feeling nice and big. The one after the workout is a MUST if not I get weak and shaky.

Synthetic? Whey Protein is REAL protein.

You know how the rhyme goes about little Miss Fit, er Miss Muffet sitting on her tuffet eating her Curds and WHEY? That's where the whey protein comes from.

Q: How is whey protein made?

A: Whey protein is a co-product of the cheese making process. Listed below is a brief description of the steps involved in making BiPro pure whey protein isolate.
Fresh milk is tested, approved by Quality Assurance experts and pasteurized.
The casein, or "curd", and a portion of the milk-fat are separated out to make cheese.
The remaining liquid whey goes through a series of fine, specialty filters to separate the whey protein from the lactose and other ingredients in the liquid whey.
Concentrated liquid whey enters an ion exchange tower to further concentrate and purify the whey protein. Ion exchange is a gentle process and does not denature, or "break down", the whey protein.
Next, the product enters a drying tower to remove water.
The final step is to package the pure whey protein isolate powder into various size containers for use.

About how much your body can absorb......

I wish I could help you more bro' I searched the internet for 2 hours looking for some solid evidence or some way to medically show how much your body uses. The only thing I found was people guessing. Saying "I've heard this, or I've heard that"

I heard 20-30grams per hour
I heard 1 gram per pound of bodyweight per day no matter what.
I heard 40 grams per hour
I heard EVERYTHING, there is no limit.

I could NOT find anything definitive or from a reliable source.

If someone does know, please post HOW you know and what source you got this information from because I would also like to do some more research on this for myself. I will be sure to post anything else I find bro'

Good Luck!

According to a sports medicine journal I kept from school it says that you can uptake up to 40g protien an hour from whole foods(chicken, turkey, steak, eggs) and 30g protein from synthetic sources. It does say that you can add 20%-35% to that number if intaking following figorous activity(you only have 15-20 minutes after figorous activity for intake to hit this number). This book is 6 years old but I think thats close to the truth-wheelz

Look at it this way since your body has to work twice as hard to turn that excess protein to fat why not take it in constantly and at a high rate.

This is a highly debated topic. I've heard as low as 30 and as high as 90. Your body can get used to a larger intake of protein, just as a body will get used to just about anything.

I'll top a post workout shake at 80 grams.

If I take in a pure whey protein, I don't feel like I can absorb more that about 30g at a time. It hits way too fast and is gone. Whole foods are completely different, it takes the stomach a while to break it down so if you eat 8 oz of chicken, you may only really be releasing 20g of protein per hour, but, it is over several hours. That is why I use a protein blend when I have to supplement, it is much closer to the release pattern of whole food. Not to mention a better amino profile. Just stay away from soy!
