Well there is a younger guy that wanted my help to lead him to the right direction for bodybuilding. He said he was doing a 5 x 5 program, and progressing in strengh, etc, ect...blah, blah, blah...
anyway, he wanted some help on training tips...so I said ok..meet at the gym at 7 pm friday evening for some leg training...he was on time, and was ready to rock and roll...he showed me what he does, and I told him dont worry about that, cause your 20 sets on quads, will be down to about 6-8 sets, and I promised him he would be done, and beat up...lol
He was ok, and I think he really didnt believe me...so we warm up on squats, and we get at it...My first half set (kinda a working set but not really) I did 315 for 20 reps...pretty easy, down to about 90 degree's...or so...I told him put on just 2 plates a side (225lbs) and I make him do 20 reps...I told him that was his last warm up....LOL....He looks at me, breating hard, and was like WTF....!!! LOL !!!
I get under the bar with 405lbs and hit a solid 16 reps...I was close to failure, but I didnt want him to spot me, cause I didnt trust him on this...Pushing squats to failure is very dangerous, and you have to have a spot you can trust...I have him do 275lbs, for again about 22 reps...he was toasted at this point, and the last two reps I had to push him threw it....He was beat, to hell at this point...Next up was leg presses on the hammer leg press. We warm up at then get at it...(2 warm ups of 10 reps with 4 and 6 plates a side)...I put my feet super low, where my heal is off the plateform..I do this to make it heavy as possiable. So I dont have to put on 15 plates a side or whatever....I do my set at 8 plates a side for 30 reps, pausing at 20 reps, and 25 reps...(slight pause of about 3-4 seconds)...next up he goes with 6plates a side (feet down very low)...he dose 25 reps, pausing at 15 reps, 20 reps....He now was about ready to toss his dinner....lol....!!!
After this we finish off with leg extensions...I put on 150lbs and hit 30 reps...again my quads where screaming to be done...He does 115lbs for 20 reps, which the last 5 reps I helped him finish them out. Next I did 100lbs for 12 slow, very controlled reps. Pausing at the top and holding it for a 2 secong count...He goes with 80lbs and hits 10 reps, again with me helpin his last 2-3 reps...He was now about lying on the ground...beat up and so pumped he said, his legs felt like jello...He was done, and said that was the toughest leg workout he ever did...I told him it was about 85% of what I normally do, for intensity...I told him I could have pushed him harder, and pushed myself harder, but that will come in the next few weeks as I get closer to the show...
We then go on to finished calfs out the same way...by the time he got done he almost coundnt walk out of the gym....lol !!!
Overall he did pretty good...I was pretty happy he held out, and we are gonna hit delts and triceps next week together...
