I'm goin to start doin deadlifts on back day. Been YEARS since I've done deads. I hurt my lower back years ago and have been a little freaked out about doin them. I feel my back is ready for the torture. What do you guys think? Do them at the begging or end of your workout? I always did them last so my back would be pre-fatigued. Could be time for a change though.

I normally do them at the end because I sometimes feel sick/extremely fatigued after doing them. Kinda like feeling like you're going to puke after squats, but not nearly as severe. Plus my back gets pretty tight.

If you're afraid of hurting your back, do them at the beginning while you're fresh. Otherwise you're going to want to use bad form to get the weight up and will run a higher risk of hurting your back again. Also, if you don't have one, get a belt and get very strict form before going heavy that way you're using more hams than back

I think its great to do them back day. Hw did you hurt your back though?

I agree, do them first while your back is fresh. If you are pre-fatigued, it raises the chances of injury.

the guy I have done deads with always does them mid workout to the end so it his last thing and he deads 645

I've never done them at the end, I know that I'd lose a lot of form at that point. It's basically like any of the major compound movements to me, I'd rather do them when I'm at my freshest. Because they require so many muscles to perform the movement, if I'm tired, I'll lose form no matter what

I actually lost all feeling in my lower body from doing heavy deads. I pinched/irritated a nerve in my back/spine and immediately afterwords lost feeling. Beginning of workout might be best for you so I would take it light and not push it too far until you're comfortable with them.

it all falls on too which exercises you do before hand, lat pulldowns and certain other things should be fine, but if you kill yourself with heavy rows first prolly not so great before deads

Yea, that's true, if you do exercises for width rather than thickness I think you could be fine doing them after that

I like to do them at the beginning.. Sometime I do them on leg day to.. Never go over 315 any more..

I always do deads on back day when I do them, not that I have been doing them that long

I hit them at the end. Im a puss about my back and heavy deads. I have been sent to the E.R. twice bc of doing deads and shrugs. My back will just "go out". I hit the floor and cant move for a day or so. Embarrasing, so Ill only go up to 405# and do them at the end. I have seen Big WV video on rack pulls and I might try those soon.
