Hey Guys and Gals
A huge big Happy New year to all.. Its been so long since I posted here and any of the forums.. I wish everyone good health , happiness and prosperity !
A bit of back ground info may help. I am 30 yo, healthy male, 6ft, 215 lbs lean , training for 12-14 years, am also a personal trainer/commercial pilot/ engineer. I workout very intensely, and I listen to my body.. Weight training 5-6 times.. Sometimes I train legs 2x or back 2x depending on how I feel.. Cardio as well in the form of punching bag and running or sprints.
I live in the Caribbean.. I have been in the US for the last year training as a commercial pilot and living my dream
Squats - 345 lbs, dead lifts 405lbs, barbell curl 135's etc , pullups with 45lb plate,
Something very weird happened to me this morning guys. The first time in my life ever.. . I was at the gym, doing a few light sets of behind the neck presses... Today was my shoulder day. So I was up at 10 am, got my BCAA's and one capsule of my ECA stack ( thermal pro) in me and went to the gym.. Suddenly, I got this searing pain on the left side of my chest, and also extended in the left side of my back... I stopped and I tried to stretch it for a while.. It didnt go away.. Every time I inhaled deeply, there was a deep searing pain along the sternum and back area and a great tightness in the chest area. I got scared. I went home and laid down.. The pain didn't subside. I was very very uncomfortable and i got scared. I called my uncle next door to me and he took me and rushed me to the A&E dept. I was scared ouf my head.. I was still breathing uneasy.. They took me in and took my b.p. As u can understand in this part of the world, its not like the USA, some of these hospitals, the doctors often treat u like animals... They did an ECG and it showed normal, my b.p. was normal. The doctor sounded me, nothing he can see. He had me breathe several times and he diagnosed spot on with the location of the pain..
He gave me a shot of mobic and concluded I got costochondroytis... he told me i needed more sleep etc.. And said the whole panic I got myself into made the breathing even worse.. And gave me some more anti inflammatory. The symptoms of it is identical to a heart attack .. I been researching it myself and says stress and anxiety does bring it on too.. I can attest that I been training extra hard. my training as a pilot has been vigorous and with being back home, I been having alot of emotional anxiety of the future etc. So Im sure that contributed..
So this evening, I decided to go to my G.P.. And I know he will give me the same B.S. that most Gp's are reknowned for.. He felt my inner chest area and he said my inter costals are all torn and thats what brought the pain and discomfort while breathing. I was like WTF? . I need to keep off the weights for 4 full weeks.. he said to swim and do brisk walking instead.
I do understand I need to take time off but I will like a more conclusive diagnosis so I will be seeking that from a sports doctor. I was training like a horse since that is the only way I know to train.. Off course I cycle my training with light days.. I was suppose to fly back to the US this Friday to continue an advanced rating but I want my problem pin pointed and what caused it.. I am sure micro trauma over the years have contributed... But I need to know what I can do and what not to do.. IM not taking this GP's word as gospel.. Some of it is total B.S.
So I come to you good folks.. Anyone care to share their experiences. Any sports doctors in the house? Please chime in. I know this injury I got is a joke compared to many other injuries many in this sport succumb too. I been very careful in my training over the years and continue to listen to my body. On occasion, we all need guidance. Cheers
