ive done bench press for a long time and never seem to really do anything for my chest and seem to undercut my tris when i do bench press. lately i have done nothing bt flys on chest days and do my regular tri days like normal...and damn what a difference... chest and tris growing like a mf.......

try cable flys at end to burn em out get a good stretch and good for saturations and cuts, burn em hard.

there was a post a while back where someone suggested just using bumbbells for chest and leave out all barbell exercises

I did dumbell only chest workouts for a month or so before I used barbell again and my strength was up

I would certainly use dumbbells more for presses but at Bally's we only have dumbbells that go up to 100 lbs. Which is usually fine for incline presses, but not flat presses. I love flys though with dumbbells, but even with those I am up to 80 lbs., which probably means that I will have to abandon those, too, on my next cycle.

With regards to using barbells/dumbbells though, most veterans (big guys who have been lifting for many years) at my gym stick ONLY to dumbbells, for chest and shoulders. That says something.

I switched to DB's for chest work a couple years ago due to a minor pec tear which I attribute to the restrictiveness of the bar. I use DB's probably 99% of the time and every so often will use barbell or hammerstrength for som variety. I also always start with incline and it has made my upper chest improve dramatically. Also forces me to use less weight when doing flats due to pre-exhaust from the inclines, which I think helps me avoid another injury. Also have noticed alot fewer shoulder problems with DB's.

I rotate starting out with flat db and inclines with the strait bar. I think the veriety helps a lot.

IMO, you need to work chest with as much variety as possible to be complete. Incline, flat, & decline presses (BB/DB/Hammer), pec deck, cable cross overs (high/low), DB flyes (incline /decline), and dips.

Winnevee, it's good you're changing things up and I'm glad your body is responding to this. I can't see ever giving up presses though. If I don't do them every week, I get weaker.

maybe im growing more because im changing things up. once my body adapts to this workout im going to change things up alot and hopefully i will keep growing.

I agree with KidRok on his idea with dumbbells for less injury and increase in gains for strength. Try doing Dumbbell Incline Presses in the middle of your shoulder workout.

Great pump ......... sweet burn!
