I normally take around 50g of protein in my shakes. I try to get about 2-3 in a day. Right now that's nearly 1g per pound of bodyweight. Is that too much from supplements or about what you guys take? I also eat plenty of meat and eggs and things, but was just wondering if you guys take about the same percentage or if I should taper it down

As long as ur getting varied protein sources too i think it's fine..

as long as your meeting your macros for the day, and are still growing, you should be good to go. i get about 3/4 of my protein from shakes as well due to work. im still growing. if its not broke, dont fix it. imo

How many of you read MD and/or MM on a regular basis? The reason I ask is because over the last 4 or 5 years, countless studies have been conducted that show the optimal single dose of protein to be between 20-30 grams for well-trained adults . These studies and subsequent articles are often featured in the mags several issues a month.

So if you wanted to add 150 grams to your daily intake you'd consume 5 shakes at about 30 grams per serving. Anything more than that has not be should to affect protein synthesis.

Anyone know what I'm talking about here?

yes, but a lot of athletes are a little more than 'well trained'. they are 'enhanced'. numerous compounds drastically increase protein synthesis in the human body.

I considered this however from what I understand, compounds affect protein synthesis efficiency and and rate of speed/uptake only. It simply makes use of more protein up to a certain point. The studies--some, if I remember correctly conducted on proclaimed bodybuilders--puts this threshold at about 30 grams per serving.

This is my understanding; however i doubt it's universal. While it seems most make use of 30 grams at a time, perhaps folks like Ronnie Coleman do well at 50 (I remember from his videos that was his exact dose). But I think you'd be an idiot if you thought downing 100 grams per shake was doing anything more for you than half that could.

i've never understood this myth about protein.

if you eat too many grams of fat (or carbs), does you body just "waste" the excess? Hell no, it stores it. Now your body cant "store" protein, but Im sure it gets converted to something else and stored (like fat, glycogen, or crap)
