Fitness is a lifestyle and not something you can do for a couple of days and expect to see results. There is a stark difference between the lifestyle of a fit and an unhealthy person. There are a few things which the fit people do that the unfit don’t which make all the difference.
The term ‘fit’ is subjective and can mean different things to different people. In this article, we will be talking about how to stay in good shape and health for life by making small changes to your lifestyle.
1. Workouts

If you want to stay in shape, you have to get your body moving. The human body was made to hunt and gather, and yet most of us use it to sit on a chair and order food online. Do a 30-45 minute workout daily. You don’t have to hit the gym to do this workout. Go for a walk, hike or a swimming session.
2. Diet
Planning your meals can make a big difference in how you look and feel. Eating 4-6 small meals a day will keep your metabolism rate high and will help you burn fat even when you’re sitting ideal.
3. Sleep

Sleep is where all the magic happens. If you are working to build muscle or lose weight, you need to give your body time to rest and recover from your workouts. You should be sleeping for 6-8 hours every night to see the best results.
4. Discipline
Transforming your physique and staying that way needs military-like discipline. You need to be working out, sleeping and eating at the same times every day. Following a disciplined approach helps your body to subconsciously get ready for what you’re about to do.
5. Tracking
Most fit people have a habit of tracking their workouts, diet, sleep and many other things. The habit of tracking helps in setting targets and comparing them with the final results. Apps on your phone make it easier to track your most important metrics.
6. Planning in Advance
If you’re failing to plan, you’re planning to fail. Planning your workouts, meals, rest and your day in advance will make you more productive. You might be a spontaneous individual but planning in advance will pay its dividends in the long run.
7. Visualization
Arnold Schwarzenegger made the technique of visualization popular. You should visualize having achieved your goals even when you’re just starting out. Visualize your days, workouts, and you will eventually turn thoughts into things.

8. In it for the Long Run
There are no overnight successes, especially in the world of fitness. If you’re looking to transform your physique, you need to commit for the long run. There are no shortcuts, hacks or cheat codes. You will need to put in the hard work.
9. Accept Failures and Setbacks
You will face failures and setbacks as you get on the journey of transformation. There might be days when you don’t feel like working out or following a routine. You might incur an injury and be out of the game for weeks. No matter what happens, you should never think about giving up.

These are the things gym jerks have in common.
Every gym has a few people who are a pain in the ass. Some of these pricks can be so bad they could make you change your gym timings. The worst part is, you can do nothing about it. A single habit of these annoying people could be putting you off.
While some people could be a trouble on purpose, the others might have no idea they are doing something wrong. Even you are not safe from this. There is a probability people in your gym think you’re a jerk. Do you want to know if this is the case?
1. Loud Grunting

Let’s get this out of the way. Grunting doesn’t make you cool. We can understand you might be lifting heavy weights, but do you really need to grunt as if you’re in labor? We’re sure you could lift those weights while making much less noise.
The funny thing is, the number of men grunting in the free weights area is directly proportional to the number of women in the gym. And the loudness of the grunting is directly proportional to the proximity of the girls to the guys.
2. Taking Away The Weights Without Asking

Every single gym around the world has these people. These gym jerks take away the weights from the barbells or the dumbbells while people are resting between their sets. A little courtesy never hurt someone.
We get it, you saw one too many ‘thug life’ in the gym videos. Whenever you see a loaded barbell or dumbbells lying on the floor, it is always a good idea to ask around if someone is using them. Form a habit of asking otherwise karma isn’t too far away.
3. Too Badass To Re-rack The Weights
If the dumbbells at your gym are always racked, you’re in a heaven. People like lifting heavy weights but they hate putting them back. Unracked weights can make a complete mess of the gym. If you use any of the gym equipment, it is your responsibility to put them back.
“If you’re man enough to lift it, then you’re man enough to put it back.”
The next time you see someone not re-racking their weights, act responsible and ask him to put it back. Oh, and if he doesn’t listen, report it to the authorities. They surely will be on your side.

4. There To Pick Up Girls
Some people think of gyms as pick up spots. They are there to impress girls and almost no one of them is good at it. Just so you know, lifting heavy weights and flexing isn’t going to get you girls – unless you’re too good at it.
If you want to pick up girls, there are better places to do it. Have you ever heard of the club, maybe? Stop being a distraction for the ladies and the people around you in the gym. Do what you’re supposed to do in the gym.
5. The Broscientists
These are the biggest gym jerks. You will always find them giving training and nutrition advice to people. All their advice and methods have no science to back them up. Broscientists are the people who take it upon themselves to correct your form.
We have an advice for all these broscientists, refrain from giving advice to anyone until you feel they will hurt themselves. Everyone’s body is different and might respond to different styles of training.
People might have come to their current form of training and what works for them after years of trial and error. There is no ‘one solution fits all’ when it comes to working out.

We can understand grunting, but do these people really have to scream like they’re going into labor? Most people scream the way they do to get attention. Nothing is more embarrassing for these princesses than people not watching as they hit a PR.

Broscientists are the people who pretend to know everything when it comes to fitness and bodybuilding. You will often find them correcting your form or suggesting new diets and supplements. Most of these broscientists are full of BS and you’d be better off staying away from them.
The Brand Shop

We can understand you like brands, but wearing Gucci and Armani to your workouts shouts you’re a show-off. If you are wondering, most people aren’t interested in where you get your stuff from.
The ‘Put-it-on-Steroids’ Guy
You’ll always find people who will put everything on steroids. If they find someone who looks awful and has an enlarged gut, they will put it on steroids. On the other hand, if they find someone with a ripped physique, they will undermine their effort by crediting steroids for their physique.
The Sweat Junkie
Some people need to carry a bucket with them to the gym. People who sweat but don’t carry a towel with them are way more irritating. You don’t want to be using a gym equipment after they’ve used it.

The Talker
Every gym has a group of people who are there to make new friends. These people will wait for you to complete your set and will pick up a conversation right away. Ignoring them while they try to talk to you the next time is the only way of keeping them away.
The Photoshop Pro
The fitness industry is full of imposters who want to gain social media followers by showing off their bodies. More often than not these people edit their pictures to look better than they are in real life.
The Pseudo Humble Guy
There are many fitness celebrities who act as if they are the most humble people you will ever meet. These hypocrites do so to gather people at their booths and to sell their stuff. There have been many instances in the past to prove this.
The Hard Seller
You can’t scroll through Instagram without being sold something by an Instagram celebrity. These celebrities are either big on sponsored posts or have amassed a following big enough to start their own brand.
The Stealer
Most people never learn to ask. Ever gym has people who take away weights and equipment other people are using without asking. Only a few things are more annoying than finding your weights are missing while you were away for a water break.

1. Re-Rack Your Weights
This is the basic gym etiquette most people lack. People use weights and leave them on the floor after completing their exercise. These people think re-racking the weights is the job of the gym employees and permit themselves to scatter weights throughout the gym.
While keeping the gym clean and tidy is the job of the gym staff, cleaning after you isn’t. Since you’re working out, it is safe to assume you’re old enough to clean up after yourself. Every gym should have this written on their walls –

2. Be Presentable

4. Ask Before Taking Equipment
If you’ve been working out for some time, there are chances you might have found yourself in a situation when someone took the weights you were using without your permission. We’re sure you wouldn’t have liked that.
Even if you find barbells, dumbbells or weight plates lying around, ask around before taking them. While you’re at it, use a towel to wipe down the equipment if you get them dirty. Doing this will add good karma to your gym life and the same will start happening to you.
5. No Dibs, Please!
Some people have the habit of blocking others from the equipment they’re using. A little sharing never hurt anybody. Not sharing is one of the most lacked gym etiquettes. Everyone is running on a schedule, always offer to share the equipment.
Since you’ll have some time in between sets, it is a great way to build new relationships. If you’re running late, you can speed up your workouts by using advanced training techniques like supersets.
