Has anyone here had an Epidural (spine Injection) for their back pain/discs?

why is it better the having surgery bro? I personaly wish they would just go straight to surgery and get this fixed once and for all, but i do pray those shots work well for me!!

where were your shots done, i have c5,c6 and c7 and then they found issues with T someting and t soemthing as well, when they did my emg, so again im praying for relief, i just want to train again

go as long as you can w/o surgery bro...especially if you need a fusion due to instability....average fusion lasts 15 yrs, 20 if youre lucky. then you have to have it revised, which can be a big fuckin deal

what do u mean by instability, i know it sounds self explanatory but still want to know what u mean by this, like peoples backs are shifting around or something like a knee has instabilty? sorry im new to all this back neck shit, lol

and with a fusion, do u lose some mobility?

Each vertebre has soft tissue (ligaments, & cartilage) connecting it to the next vertebre. A lot of times these joints become stretched and are loose. Its fairly common along side of ruptured/herniated disks....
If you have a fusion you will lose some mobility w/o question. The degree of mobility lost is directly the result of how many vertebral levels are fused. Each time u bend your spine your vertebre articulate with each other. When they are fused its the joint between each level thats fused to the next and so on... If you have a one or two level fusion the loss of mobility is noticable for the individual but typically you cant tell by watching them move. The 4,5,6 level fusions it becomes more significant.

my friend had one done only for diagnostic reasons which is dif but ill tell anyhow he couldnt get out of bed for like 4 days he was so hurt but ur getting some kind of pain reliefe not diagnostic so should mask the pain from the epidrural, hope everything goes ok and y u try and scare him talking bout tainted cortisone that problem was taken care of id assume, poor guy dont worry bout that its unrelated imo

Well I had it done wednesday and im pretty sure it was just the first shot of 3 im suppose to get, but this first shot didnt help at all! If im being honest it hurts more now then when i went in for some reason, they said it may hurt more after the first day or so and then i should get relief, but i havent gotten any fucking relief at all

So im hoping the next 2 shots i think im suppose to get help

I was looking forward to going back to the gym and hitting it hard again, and their s no fucking way i can train like this, so yeah im pretty disapointed to say the least!

ya figured since my bro couldnt move for 2 days out of bed after his epidural checking for cancer rather than adding pain meds or whatever but still figured the needle was gonna make it hurt no matter wat

My buddies back is degenerative hes only like 29 but cant go hard anymore, he has the spine of an 80 year old, and it sucks bc hes naturally retardedly lean and when on he will go from 188-215 in a couple months, staying lean as shit, and im talking under 6% easy always I feel bad for him. Hope those next shots help but be careful its not fixing its masking pain

any relief yet? sometimes it takes days for them to kick in....sometimes its not till the third injection that ppl get relief..how far are they spaced? two weeks is typical but changes w/ the individual

Presser said a few days ago that it actually hurt worse the day after than it did before the shots, but maybe he can update his status here since it's been a few days

Maybe a little bit when i woke up today, someone told me i should maybe start working out light instead of sitting around and getting stiff, they said lifting light might help losen me up and i may start feeling more relief, so i might hit the gym today and see if i cant do some light work

I dont have any other shots set up, just a date with the dr to see how the first shot went i guess, but i was told i would likely get 3 shots in pretty fast succession, but no idea when the other shot is to be done yet

typically resuming full activity after 48hrs is normal protocal. you'll know if you're doing more harm than good..
just listen to your body bro

Just remember you have an injury bro, its frustrating I know but i didnt listen and made mine worse. Its hard when you are so disciplined to do what you have always done andd then have tto change it up suddenly and do nothing. Do stretches and use light weight dont make it worse or it will be surgery and limited mobility or worse.... paralyized. Trust me bro i feel ya. Been there done that.

thanks, yeah still havent started back at the gym, im thinking tonight i will start back up.

Honestly I feel a good bit of relief today, I started taking ibuprofen again and it helps a whole lot!

reducing the inflamation is a great source of relief, its presssing against that nerve that makes rthe whole thing miserable. Most people live with back injuries and dont even know it. Use heat packs on your back lay on your chest microwave some wet towels and relax, this actually helps believe it or not, we do it all the time here at work when the athletes are hurting or sore in the back, the doc said it helps for sciatic injuries as well.

epidurals usually provide pain relief up to a year. They don't provide relief to everyone. While ibuprofen is often taken by some patients, it's hell time 3 on the liver in a relatively short period of time. If surgery is an option, don't be afraid, the success rate is pretty good & the old myth is really a myth now. My grandma had hers at 82. after her surgery, she traveled more, bought a convertible, & she thinks it's the best health decision she's ever made.

thanks guys, today is the best i have felt in months, and still havent gone back to the gym just yet but intend to this week, hopefully tomorrow is the day i go back and get a decent pump, we'll see

Thanks to everyone with their insight and help
