Bench press tip that got me a killer pump

I put the pins on my smith machine about an inch off my chest. I stopped for a breath on each rep and had to start pushing off the pins. My chest felt like it was gonna pop. I really think this is going to help me have some strength in the sticking point of my press too. I know others have done this but I can really tell it hit my pecs hard.
