Growing into a show?

So update, ended up bailing out of this show due to many reasons... First off being my first show my head should have been in it 100% and it wasn't , due to the fact too many other priorities in life, working 50 hours a week and decided to go back to school this semester, and I recently got engaged and so obviously finances weren't in such good shape, but I had to focus on priorities, the perfect time will come and I'm glad I decided to wait till I was 2 weeks out LOL, although continuing on with the cycle and still going to get shredded :) just my maybe show condition , I could have done the show physically but I think waiting will yield better bigger leaner version of me, happy with where iv come as 3 years ago I was 225 32% body fat benching 135 now I'm 200 11-12% pushing 405+ , this thread will die out but when I decide to do my show I'll make sure I do a full log on here!!

it's tough...just went through that myself.....new job....bad time in marriage, just moved, my youngest had his 5th bday party the day before and still depressed on losing a very close friend.....my head was in it about 60% my heart was 30%....I ended up taking 5th and not the usual conditioning I have been in years past...thought I could make up for it with more gear.......I shouldve shut it down as well and now I am pissed for even doing the show and ended up throwing the 5th place trophy in trash.......if you're not in it 100% in all aspects it's not going to do you any good.....you're a very smart guy for recongizing it.....I am pretty stupid and thick headed......my oldest calls me a stuborn old man..hahaha....fucking kids.....(I am 46).....you're time will come my friend and you will kill it for sure......

Personally I can't give myself an out. If I say I'm doing a show, I'll do it barring being physically unable to get up there. You'll always have stress, financial issues, and unforeseen obstacles. Just as you'll always believe you could've done better. Such is life.
I'm not saying what you did is wrong as who am I to say that. I just know that personally I have to do it if I start it.
As for growing into a show... Not unless several factors such as coming off of a layoff and tremendous dietary / drug knowledge coupled with extraordinary genetics. Unless you've of all of those, you aren't going to "grow" into a show.

Eswol well said bro! If my head isn't in it 100% I'm not going to just ass 10 more weeks to just let myself down, I just have too much of everything else goin on, and the dude I see your point! The head game varies from person to person just as physiques do! Interesting, you are dedicated man! And as for growing into the show I beleive I would as I started 24 weeks out 201 17% and I would be 9 weeks out right now I beleive and I'm currently 200 11% very large recomp

I guess it depends on your starting point. As well as your diet... In terms of length as well as your genetics. When I decided to change up my training and diet it took a good 8 weeks for me to figure out what I had to do to be able to maintain or even make slight improvements in my physique while losing bodyfat. After all of this I learned a very interesting thing about my body. I need to do at least 18 weeks or very controlled dieting for a show or I just lose too much muscle.
