Hitting muscles twice a week

For the last like 3 years I've done 1 muscle a day 5 days a week. Chest back legs shoulders arms. The last 3 months I actually split arms into 2 days biceps and triceps. Of course on those days I'd do cardio abbs obliques so that I was there for atleast an hour.

My question now is I'm about to start working out with a friend who will do shoulders bis and tris a day and chest and back or chest and legs a day so I said what do we do with the other days of the week. He says he'll hit muses twice a week. Is that over working? Keep in mind I'm taking 600mgs of test and 600mgs of eq and 50mcg igf 5-6 days a week

Is it beneficially for me to change since I been doing one muscle a week for so long?

100% YES

as long as your diet is on point and your getting enough sleep you should be ok.

if you "on" then your recover time is cut down which helps alot too

use to run a nonstop 4 day split, no days off, hit every muscle 3 times every 2 weeks and saw some pretty good gains with it, just got tired and needed a change

I've been training legs twice a week since I started lifting 3.5 years ago and I can't imagine doing them less than that... they're my biggest weakness, so I feel they need the love and attention. So far, so good!

At certain times of the year when I'm not dieting, I push myself so hard that I need extra time to recover in between leg days so then it gets stretched out a bit more, but those are on brutal, all out, throwdown weeks when I can barely walk for 4-5 days... I'd say, def try it out!

I am not a big proponent of doing major groups twice a week for very long. I think they take to much out of the nervous system to be able to recoup in time for the next workout. Tell me someone that goes balls to the wall on legs and then does it again in a couple days? If you are going to go for it I would say do it for a few weeks and then get back to a better schedule...STOP counting the traditional days as in Monday through Sunday and learn your body.

Words of wisdom there, I don't know too many people that will do legs twice in the same week

I just don't think it is worth it...except if you are backing off and going to more moderate workouts. When I get close to a show I will up the intensity and rep range toa twice a week deal, but when I am putting on mass I go 1 major bodypart every 7 days. Calves and abs 3 times a week. If you are sticking then GIVE YOUR BODY A REST...STAY OUT OF THE GYM....when you are in the gym TOO LONG you are ruining your progress...I workout an hour a day and then I am GONE to eat, rest and grow!!!!!!!!!!
why work it more to break through??????? Makes NO SENSE to me!

^ Excellent advice... I've read that some guys do train one or two lagging bodyparts twice a week, even if it's a short-term strategy... but taking time to rest so you can grow is also necessary!

You're right though... learn your body! What works for one person may or may not work for another...

Steph...I think what most people do is they have stuck in their mind the Monday-Sunday thing. So everything goes according to the named week. I know this because for the last however many years everyone asks me..."do you train chest on Monday or What day do you do legs or whatever..."

I will train a lagging bodypart short term and I mean very short term twice every seven days if I need a jolt, but I think for recovery time and repair the body needs more than 48 hours. Even on a heavy cycle the body has to have time...I listen to my body and know when I can hit it again. I was out of the gym 15 years and only back 3 years now. I am back to almost 270 and it is by training smart and heavy NOT by the more is best philosophy.

Having said that...I know people that can train one day heavy and the 2nd days light for a period of time and be ok for a bit, but ultimately the body has to heal.
