With all the debate about undertraining/overtraining, what is the correct amount of days to workout to get bigger?
if I go 3 I maintain, if I go 6 I get bigger but feel like there can still be better improvements.
3 - 4 times a week and still manage to overtrain occasionally. I also do a lot fewer working sets than anyone I know. It's always been that way for me, but I've learned to deal with it.
I go 4 days/wk. There are three elements you can manipulate to grow. Intensity, volume, and frequency. If you cut back from 6 days to 3 days, just increase one of the other two variable to balance it out, without overtraining obviously.
im still doing 2-4 right now on my "rest months" but hoping for a consistant 5 a week in January although I will be taking 2 classes and working 2 jobs, plus a baby 2 months after that so we shall see
I think this is trial and error here to really find out what works best for each individual. Over the years I've tried them all. Now I cover each body part once a week and cardio after each workout. Im not trying to grow here though. I simply want to get leaner and thats it. Im stong and big enough for what I want.
I'm forever tweaking my muscle parts, always trying different combos. Because I own my own gym in a small market, I have to be aware that my hard core training routines aren't what the general public wants to see. Therefore when most are resting the weeknds, I'm hitting it hard and heavy after closing times and take 2 days off during week. Exception is pre-contest when I'm blasting 6 days
