I just like to step on the scale, read that weight, and double it. Should be about right, lol
I just got on the scale and the scales laughed at me and said I dont think so fat ass!!!! Hell if I could bench double my weight now I would be super happy lol!

I agree with the lying , it is the only way . unless you actually lift your 1 rep limit then you are required by law to lie about how much you can really lift. That law goes back generations. J.R.

Or you can always says...."Oh I bench ABOUT 300" when you say that any smart wt. lifter should know yeah he only does bout 185 for a set of 4!

I wont do a one rep max. And I wont do math. So when people ask I just guess. I estimate probably much higher than I can actually do. Some people call this "lying."

at 6'2 275 I get the "how much can you bench" question so much it drives me phucking bonkers.
I usually answer something like, " well, I just did 625lb this morning actually"
Of course that would end up being one very fast negative if attempted, but hell, thats what they want to hear!

Good thread. Knowing, or closely estimating 1 RM is important for ensuring continuous progress in my opinion. Especially in low set work. I think it is too easy to not try to push the max weight and therefore not push ourselves as hard as we can. Without a reliable training partner estimation methods are necessary to avoid injury.

Well, I can do sets of 10-12 with 315 usually, and I've never put up more than 385...........I know, I'm a wimpy, girly man who puts up kiddie weight *cries and runs out of the room*
