Offseason update/and LOG - chris250

well im 8 months into my offseason, and like I said before I was getting pretty tired of always eating, and stuffing myself. So this past 3 days I went to 2-3 meals and 1-2 shakes (min of 4 meals per day) one junk meal per day, but rest half way clean. What I noticed was that my weight never went below 273lbs...and today (this morning) I was 276lbs. That to me is amazing, cause anytime before this point, if I missed a meal, or had a bad day of not getting all my meals in, my weight would drop to 268-270lbs, right away. So im thinking that the muscle I have gained is getting denser and harder. I dont look as bloated now, as I did a month ago, but I was close to 280lbs then. Most times now, my weight is a solid 275lbs all times, at night 280lbs...maybe a touch higher. That is huge to me, as I never have carried this amount of muscle before. Even when I was younger and got up to 280lbs it was like this weight. It was much softer, more bloated looking.

also I noticed that my strengh is still climbing up slowly. It isnt going up by leaps and bounds. But, each week I notice I get a extra rep, or add 5lbs to the bar, or machine. I feel stronger, and everything feels lighter and easier to me. In the past couple months, before I would almost be scared to lift the weight cause in fear of I might tear something or get hurt. But, now my confidence is higher, and just having that extra bit of strengh is really starting to show. I think it is also giving me a denser harder look to my muscles.

even though I have been doing a yates type of workout, I have been doing heavy weights in moderate range reps (8-10) then do a higher rep range but still with heavy weight to failure (15-20). This seems to give me more of that full and round look to my chest/delts/arms. I make every workout like its my last workout, and just go to all out failure on all working sets. So my sets would look something like this....weight x 15 (warm up) weight x 10 (warm up) weight x 5 (heavy warm up) max weight x 8-10 (set to failure, forced rep or two) 70% of max weight set x 15-20 (to failure, no forced rep)...I do this on my first movement, then continue it threwout the workout. I do 2-3 movement on all upper body (sometimes 4 on back day) and lower body I do this, quads 2-3, hams 1-2, calfs 1 set. Calfs are a strong point so I only do one or two working sets, both in the higher rep range. Everything else I consider it needs work or extra work. I also have been doing more free weights this year (dumbells, and bar work) and I really believe it has added to my thickness and roundness to my overall look.

well that is my low down on my training...if any questions just ask away.

I like it. I've been doing volume for a little while now do I may go back to something like what you're doing

dam chris 280 is massive brutha, i dont know that i remember seeing pics of you ever at that weight?

What is your offseason diet like these days Chris? do you like your offseason diet approach better than the strategy you used when you were working with Magnum after the nationals a few years back? If I recall right his diet (offseason) for you was moderate to lower carbs ..higher fat and protein...not too far off from certain stages of your precontest plan for nationals. All the very best and great to read that your still hitting the iron.

well the diet approach im doing now, is simular to that...moderate carbs, moderate fats, moderate protein. Im just trying to get in 6 meals per day. Dense foods, like red meat, whole eggs, pasta, ect. Yes, im getting some junk in there, but it hasnt effected me to badly. I mean, without the dense cals I dont know I would be up to 280lbs without them. Maybe not the best approach, for everyone. But, I do get in cardio 4 times a week at 45 mins per time, and that keeps me somewhat tighter and leaner. My higher cals days are on the weekend, but I also eat more cheat meals those two days. There are weekends I gain 8-10lbs over the two days. by the end of the week, Im back down to 275lbs ...

Something else I have notice during this bulking phase, is that I get tired very easily. I mean my work isnt hard at all, its somewhat physical at times, but nothing crazy. I still get very tired most days. I guess its the extra weight im at now. Im just not use to it yet, I guess. Everything just feels heavy on me, my arms get tired if I let them hang all day (sounds dumb, I know, but its true) my feet hurt by the end of the day...it's just a weird feeling being this heavy...

Yesterday (wends) had a killer leg workout with my training partner (note he is 67 years old) He kicked my ass yesterday. I did super squats 540 x 20...with a 1-2 second pause at the bottom of each rep, I came to a compete stop, and held it for a second. Then blasted the weight up to the top, it was killer set...Felt a good pump afterwards, and my legs looked pretty decent sized...

My partner Frank and I did some chest and delts tonight...barbell incline presses, smythe presses to the neck, on a slight decline. Hammer behind neck press, and laterals...just 4 movements but every set to failure and beyond. Had a great pump, looked really full tonight. Tommarow will do some bis and tri work...Ill get some video on that...

Ok weekend update guys...

did chest, delt, and tri's on friday evening....explain above post...

did back and biceps on sunday...that was a great workout, cable one arm curls, preacher machine widowmaker curls, front lat pulldowns, deadlifts, then finished out with some d.c. seated rows for width...my pump was crazy..I feel like im in a growth phase again. Something is changing in me, I feel fuller, harder, and rounder. Just a few weeks ago, I felt like I was slowing down, so I took it easy for a week, dropped my cals and intensity back...then boooom !!!! All of a sudden im growning again. I did change around some super supplements, and what not. Not sure if that is the reason, or what. but ill take it...lol

also of note...this morning I woke up and weighed in at 280lbs on the dot...heaviest morning weight ever...

what are widow maker curls? Similar to spider curls?

no its a D.C. term used to discribe a high rep blood pumping set...the term was started by Dante Trudle...famous for the doggcrapp trainins system

I had one of my better quad/ham and calf workouts in a awhile...my hack squats I did a 5 second negative on every rep for 20 reps. It wasnt crazy heavy weight, but it was ass to the floor reps, with a very controlled positive. After that did high rep leg extensions. Also, before quads, we did calf raises and seated and lying leg curls, all to failure, with good strong negative reps. Great workout, my legs are fried today...

Almost missed this video, thats the biggest ive ever seen ya bro!

im glad you caught it..I will have some more vids this upcoming week...

as for training today..did chest, delts, and triceps today...

did hammer incline press 425 x 10 reps (working set), then right to flat db presses 100x 14 reps...superset...rested up then went to deltoids...did the cybex front press...did 215 x 10 reps...1 forced rep in there....then went to the flex seated lateral machines....130 x 25 reps (widowmaker set) then was done super slow....finished with dips added a 45lbs to my body got 15 reps with a few partial reps..then did one arm cable pushdowns with 50lbs for 20 reps each...great workout, super pump

went down to Midwest Iron today with my training partner and hit back and biceps...

we did this...

flex one arm machine curls - stack (220lbs) x 10 reps each arm
cable rope curls (hammer style) - 80 x 10 each arm
(both movements to failure)

Hammer reverse grip pulldowns - 230 x 11 + 1 (forced rep)
Hammer DY rows - 270 x 20 reps (each side) - did these one arm at a time, to get more focus on each lat.

great workout, felt kinda sick afterwards. Dont know why, it was kinda hot in there, so that might be whey....

Used P.N. BCAA n More during workout (2 scps)
then post workout did 2 scp. whey isolate

Felt better in a hour...so maybe just a bit tired and beat from working this weekend...sucks we are on OT all week...

well long work day...we are on overtime for a few days, so im going to get lots of rest, pack more meals for work (more time at work, means more breaks to eat) and make sure to get in good workouts after work. Im pretty, beat today. I havnt dont much overtime for awhile, so getting adjusted to it will take a bit
