I get enough Hammy work on legs day and back day to even bother with them. I used to do stiffies but regular Deads (heavy) back day, and multiple sets of standing leg iso-curls keep them pretty fatigued. When I used to do them it was with a barbell
i love stiff leg dead lifts to really burn my hams. i always do them with a barbell so i can use enough weight. here is a suggestion: try doing them with ur legs slightly wider than shoulder width apart and ur feet angled out about 15 degrees. u really have to make sure u keep ur back straight and head up when doing these tho. try them like this and ull really feel it in ur hams and glutes. i usully do 4 sets of 6-10 reps along with leg curls 4 sets of 6-10 reps for my hamstrings.
I love them! As a matter of fact my hams are still sore from Saturdays workout! he he! I did 3 sets with DB which I prefer it makes me control the wight better and works forearms which I never do. I worked up to 100's for 15 good reps with no wrist straps. Damn my forearms got sore. With straps I can go a little higher.
bignick make sure ur keeping ur legs straight when doing it...if u bend ur legs ull shorten the hamstring muscle which in turn wont allow u to fuly stretch and contract it, thats why u feel it in ur lower back. also angle ur feet outwards at 15 degrees and keep ur back straight and head up
yeah bro u should realy feel the pain in the hams, i cant walk right for up to a week sometimes, lol, dont bend ur knees bro, stiffs will destroy ur hams when done right
make sure to do SLDL's first thing in your hamstring workout
i notice if i do leg curls first, then try to do SLDL's, my lower back struggles, and im not able to hit the hammies as hard as i should
so to review.... doing SLDL's first while your lower back is fresh will allow maximum hamstring recruitment... and be sure to STRETCH in between sets, this makes a HUGE difference bro!
I SWEAR BY EM! had a slight tear in the L-5 vert so i gave em up for a while was one of the first things i started doin again use it mainly for the lower back and to really stretch the hammies. i prefer dumbells. feels like i get a better stretch. i do em after squats. 90lb db 3 sets of 10
wow, I feel like I got hit by a mac truck from stiffs 2 days ago, I mixed em up with standing leg curls, geezus they killed me, and I turned my feet out and realy got that different feel, sweetest exercise man
i had an ACL tear so i have to bend them a little or it feels like sand paper inside there....i have found the new purpose for these bastards and its a love/hate relationship...they rock your nuts off man, best hamstring ex. ever!
