Hey bro,
I ruptured L-1 I beleive...caused me a lot of nerve pain for a while, but your body can heal itself to an extent. I have done squats/dead lifts/ and cleans since then, but I am a VERY lucky person. I usually don't go very heavy, and I try to listen to my body...your back will never be completely healed, but it can get better, so just learn your own limits and play it safe. I would say don't do squats for a while, then if you really feel the need, start light and see how it responds.
