Ok, you guys my legs are my week point. I have been doing heavy squats and getting much stronger and my legs are getting bigger. I am upto 315lbs for 12 reps with saftey squat bar and 405lbs for 4 reps, deep on box. Now, this week I was exhausted and just couldnt do squats so I recently bought a leg press that Im not found of and it seems that I can barely do 4 plates on the press for 10 reps. Doesnt make sense so Im playing with the foot placement. Also, I recently saw a video piece that Dorian did. He is a big beleiver in pre-exhauting quads with heavy, heavy leg extensions before leg work. I was wondering what you guys thought, particuarly saudeds bc I notice he just made some good gains in legs

Just don't become lazy and use the leg press as your staple for legs. This is what many guys do and they miss out on the overall strain that squats put on the body for overall growth. Take me to a show and I believe I can tell you the guys that squat heavy and the guys who don't. Squatting makes your entire body have to grow and creates a thick look all over.
Having said that, if you are going to leg press just remember the same foot placements that are on the floor hold true on the plate. If you have narrow foot placement it places most of the stress on the quads, wider placement tends to hit more the quad and inner thigh, high on the plate hits quad, ham and glutes. ALWAYS push off the heels and stay off your toes!!!!
Concentrate on form in all your leg work and don't get caught up in heavier is better although heavy weight will come as you get stronger. NEVER short stroke leg work. Squat your butt in the hole when squatting, leg press - never let your lower back come bending up off the seat because when you push you will be pushing against those vertebra! I had a guy we had to carry out of our gym and he hasn't been back in over a year now.

x2!

Thanks very much. I am working hard to bring-up my legs and have noticed when I kill my legs on squats, my other parts grow better. I promised a friend of mine that I would send pics of my legs to him every week to make sure I dont puss out. Anyway, please tell me if doing heavy extensons helps or not. Dorian seems to think that they do whcih carries a lot of weight with me. So Im thinking do I just go balls to the wall with squats then do extensons or do I hit extensions hard then hit squat heavy.
Thanks Again

very good post

i dont think heavy leg extensions are a great idea because they are an unnatural movement. Pre exhausting with lighter, higher reps leg extensions is something alot of guys do. Great for warming up the muscle.

save your knees, dont do heavy leg extensions.
